I just got back from Dr Karen Overall's seminar "From Leashes to Neurons". This was only day one but it was fascinating! She started by discussing the biology of a dog's (an our) brain, how we learn, how certain pharmaceuticals can help dogs with extreme anxiety or fear issues.
This was fascinating for me because of my training background as well as the fact that I have two very anxious and fearful dogs. Lance has been so afraid since the July fireworks that he still will not walk around the neighborhood. It has been well over 3 weeks since our crazy neighbors have stopped shooting things off but he is still too afraid to leave the yard. Why is it that people do not realize (or maybe just don't care) the long-lasting effect that sooting off fireworks (illegally, I might add) can have on our beloved pets?...
Anyways, she is great and I learned a lot! I cannot wait until tomorrows talk to see what else I can take away to help my dog's!

in What's new?
It has been such a long time since I have written....I am going to try to write at least a few times a week going forward. Here are some of the high points since my last entry.
Logan started nosework classes at another location. He is doing great! For those of you who don't know anything about the relatively new sport of Nose Work, I urge you to check it out! It is so much fun watching him learn and expand his comfort level around other dogs and in new loations. I owe a lot to nose work in that regard.
We tried our second ORT but didn't do so good despite the fact that he did AWESOME in the practice ORT. The first run of the practice it only took him 22 seconds to find the box with the odor in it. He was just awesome but when it counted he did not do so well.
Lacey is also going to Nose Work classes and having a lot of fun!!
Lance will be starting a Treiball class soon and I cannot wait for that! We have been practicing some and he loves it!!
Lance is still so scared from the crazy neighbors shooting off fireworks for most of the month of July that he will not leave the yard. We are working on that but only time will help...:(
Until next time which will be much sooner, Take Care!
