need Cavachon info

by ragster on 6/8/2010 at 8:49 PM in First Post

A co-worker needs to find a home for her 1 1/2 yr old Cav. (she is moving to a small apt. and is able to take only her female Cav. due to lack of funds & space. I have offered to take him, but am unfamiliar with the breed. Does anyone know about health probs. later on? Both dogs seem healthy now, but I'd like to know if there are likely to be health problems down the road.

I haven't been able to download photos either, so I don't know just what they look like but she said he was fluffy.
Do they need to be groomed/trimmed? My Jackie-Bichon isn't groomed, (other than brushing of course),I like her natural rather than fluffed up and it doesn't grow past a certain length.

Thanks

Choosing a Giant Schnoodle

by jubrown on 6/8/2010 at 3:34 PM in Selecting a puppy

There they were three puppies with gorgeous black wavy hair, alert intelligent eyes, and inquisitive noses twitching as they picked up the scent of newcomers. But they weren't barking as were the litter of Standard Poodle puppies in the adjoining pen.

Compared to the three Giant Schnoodle puppies, the Standard Poodles (and I love Standard Poodles) seemed over-permed and hyper-active.

I picked up the only male among the Schnoodles and set him down at my feet. He was friendly, but more anxious to check out the world beyond his pen than to cozy up to me.

I had read up on different breeds and had sought the advice of a potential trainer, but nothing seemed to matter except this captivating puppy at my feet.

We were "shopping" for a puppy to train to be a therapy dog, one that I would take to hospitals and nursing homes to visit. While Labs and Golden Retrievers were recommended, I had opted for a poodle because they don't shed.

This puppy, a cross between a Giant Schnauzer and a Standard Poodle shouldn't shed either. His mother, the Schnauzer, was big beautiful and all black. She was very laid-back and friendly. We were "sold" and so was the puppy very quickly.
