Three days after the hurricaine 2 great things happened: the electricity came back on and Zoe gave birth to 4 puppies in our living room, surrounded by the entire neighborhood. Zoe was a very attentive mother, but she developed preclampsia after about a week of nursing the pups and became very ill. The puppies had to be hand fed from then on. Since I was unable to return to my job in Galveston due to damage from the hurricane, I took care of the puppies during the day, and my neighbor pulled night duty. I fell in love with Sadie, and we wound up keeping her. Two sisters went to another neighbor in the culdesac, and the only male was placed with another family. Sadie has been the most precious dog I have ever had. She has long wirey hair normally, but we have her groomed so she doesn't get too hot.
