Whitney's Story & Details
October 2011
Whitney came to us at 1 year old and is nearly 2 1/2 now and 70+ lbs. We got her from the German Shepherd Rescue Alliance. We had applied for a different GSD from the Alliance online. We missed out by one place in line. The director of the Milwaukee County chapter of GSRAW [about 90 miles away from us] picked up on this and called us the next day. She said she felt bad that we missed out. Then went on to say she had a beautiful 1 yr old female that was just picked up, never kenneled yet, not posted yet and was living at her home for now. She sent us a photo and wondered if we'd be interested. We could not get there fast enough!!

Although Whitney has somehow retained the classic purebred German Shepherd look, I, being a GSD breeder all through the 70's, knew there was another breed[s] in there also. Her power and speed were breathtaking. So we had the Mars Veterinary Wisdom Panel DNA test done on her. It was full of Ahhhaaa moments. Whitney turned out to be 60% German Shepherd, 25% Bernese Mountain Dog and 15% Saluki.
She seems to have only positive traits of all three breeds:

GSD: Classic look, intelligence, loyalty and courageousness [only when appropriate].

BMD: Strength [she pulls like a freight train] and has a loving, gentle, quietness about her.

Saluki: Blazing fast, non-locking hips, deep lungs, pointed ribcage, energetic sight hunter.

I would suspect that all her litter mates were starkly different from each other; I know we are surely enthralled with her and feel very, very lucky. We hope she feels the same about us.

Thank you for taking the time to read about our "daughter" [:) [:)
