Greagle?

Oliver was sold to his original owner as a blue beagle, but we think he might be an italian greyhound beagle mix. Anyone care to comment?

Whatever the mix Oliver is certainly a beautiful guy. He seems to me to have a sort of whimsical expression, saying "Hey what does it matter, guys? I am cute".
I am afraid that I cannot really comment from the photo if he has Italian Greyhound in him or not. I have more experience with the larger breeds of the greyhound family, mainly, in England we call them "lurchers", that is usually greyhound or whippet mixes. And one strong characteristic of any of these sighthounds is that they apparently have very strong genes and any first crosses ie mixes of the greyhound or whippet with another breed is that the pups usually favours, the greyhound or whippet rather than the other parent. Oliver definitely looks just like a beagle and the genes there are clearly the most powerful. To me there are no visible traces of the Italian Greyhound in him at all.

Thanks so much for your reply. I'll have to post some pictures of him standing, where you can see his body shape. People that see him run, usually comment that he is a graceful runner, like a greyhound, so that has added to us thinking he might be mixed. Thanks for the info though on the greyhound genes and certainly whether he is or not, we just love him to death.

Welcome to you both! From the coloring and slightly slender build it is possible there is some Italian Greyhound in the mix. Either way he is a beautiful Dog!

Having read your reply to my first comment & also sands904's I have looked at the present photo again, and think I was probably too hasty, for which I apologise, the length and shape of the legs would seem to be very greyhound. I shall look forward to seeing the other photos. Most likely the body shape will settle it.

I am sorry to have opened my big mouth in my first comment! Having seen the picture of Oliver standing, sideways view, I surrender. you obviously have a Greagle. There are also pictures under the Breed section of others, very similar to your handsome guy. Also quite a bit of useful information about the cross-breed, if you haven't already seen it.

No problem. We did see some of the pictures posted by others under "greagle" and thought they looked similar. I'll have to read some more about the cross bread. Thanks again for your responses :)
