Owner Testimonials

My Fourche Terrier

I adopted a Fourche Terrier Male when he was a 10 week old puppy. He has been very healthy, but has grown much bigger than I imagined. I have read that most Fourche Terriers are small dogs. Our's weighs 26 pounds, and he is not fat. He is 11 inches at the whithers, and 15 inches from collar to base of tail. He is longer and a bit taller than his Westie Mother.

His shiney fur is various shades of brown, rust and black, mingled together. He has a white patch on his chest and a milk chin. The fur is thick, but if brushed weekly, has never had problems matting. It does not shed. He prefers to be insde during hot weather. Our groomer gives him a Westie cut about every eight weeks, which keeps him looking quite handsome. If left unclipped, he looks like a small sheepdog. He became a bit itchy last autumn. It seems to have been a seasonal thing. He has displayed no health problems of any kind and has a hearty appetite.

He enjoys a brisk walk, but also is content playing in his fenced play yard. He enjoys playing fetch and is good with children and adults.

He is smart, affectionate, playful loyal and sometimes, very stubborn. I know of one person who had a Fourche Terrier that lived to be 15 years and 9 months old. The Fourche Terrier makes a delightful companion.
