Are apples okay for dogs? I know dogs should generally not have people food and we very rarely feed our dogs any. Every once in a while they get rice or fresh baked chicken or things along those lines. I know there are things that dogs definitely should NOT have like chocolate, raisins, grapes, onions, sugar, etc. The last couple of days I have been eating an apple and my dogs are going crazy trying to get to some of it so that made me wonder if apples are okay for dogs. I am not going to feed them an entire apple or anything just curious if a small piece or lick is okay? I also read that the seeds are definitely not good for them. Thanks for your thoughts...

i have never given my dogs apples but if you have an apple cutter one or possibly 2 depending on the size of the dog i would imagine would be fine, but like you said an entire apple would definatly be harmful to them. i hope that helps, good luck![:)]

My Aunt used to have a Border Collie and we would play ball with "Skeeter" using a pear from the tree in the back yard. This was great fun and exercise for both all of the kids and the dog. Of course when "Skeeter" tired if the game (after all she was 14 years old) she would politely lay down in the cool grass and EAT the "BALL". Never any ill affects in all those years. I also have given bites of apples, peaches, cantalope and bananas to our dogs over the years. Never any ill affects. Of course none of the forbidden grapes, etc. And always check with your vet before giving any kind of new food or tidbit. Always never over do a good thing!

In addition to apples My dogs often like watermelon rinds and Fugly likes to steal raw potatos if he gets the chance. I do not think he eats the potatos but he loves to chew them to bits all over my bed.

My dog has food allergies so I have to be careful what I give her. I do on occasion give her small pieces of apple and baby carrots she loves them and does not appear to have any problems with them. I never really thought about it being a no no. At my next vet visit I think I will ask my vet if it is ok.

yes dogs can have apples and things like that. my dogs love KIWI!!! you can also give them small amounts of watermelon as well. if you are going to give them meat. make it raw meat EXCEPT PORK! NEVER EVER feed raw pork. i go to the grocery store and get the little tiny chunks of beef (for stir fry) and i give that to them as a treat and they LOVE it. also i buy marrow bones from the grocery store and that has been a big hit here plus the bone marrow is GREAT for them. they also love raw kidney and hearts that i buy from the grocery store as well in a little packet

Perfect Khia loves small bits of apple, carrot, banana, green beans. I never thought about kiwi. I will try that next. I am finding Khia is good with only unprocessed foods, so all your suggestions would be great for her except marrow bones. She does not digest them and they go right through her and come out like gravel so my vet suggested we stay away from them.

yea i can always help you out. i have researched raw like crazy and even watch a bunch of videos on youtube about raw diets. during the summer time i like to give my dog frozen carrots which help cool them down and also satisfys their need to chew :D great for people who are new here and have puppies! im sure khia will do MUCH better on a raw or home cooked diet. its the best for them and its what they would eat naturally. animals dont eat kibble in the wild :D

Khia is loving and doing great with the safe raw vegetable and fruits. She is so full of energy, enthusiasm, and enjoys life to the fullest. It is so nice to have a low calorie, healthy treat that does not impact her allergies.
